  9. It's just the Wiimote doesn't contain a gyroscope (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyroscope), it contains a three-axis accelerometer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accelerometer).

On the third whack, the accelerometer started working again and has been working flawlessly since. I just was to say THANK YOU SO MUCH.
